Your request for a Web site hosted by NCC Ecumenical Networks has been approved! 1. HERE IS IMPORTANT IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION FOR YOU! This is information you may need in the future -- please keep it in a safe place. You will need your UserID and Password to set up your Web page. Your URL is the Web site address to share publicly -- it tells Web "browsers" (human and machine alike) how to find your site. Your Home Directory indicates where your site is located on the National Council of Churches' Web server (a "server" is a computer linked to the Web). Your UserID: Your Password: Your URL: http://ncccusa.org/ecmin/ Your Home Directory: /home/ecminweb/ 2. YOU ARE NOW READY TO SET UP YOUR WEB PAGE! (IT'S EASY!) The next step in the process will be to set up your Web page -- yourself, if that's your wish, or with Ecumenical Network's help, if you have requested it (or discover that you need or want it!). It's easy to do! We have provided you with a simple "fill-in-the-blanks" form accessible either by going directly to http://ncccusa.org/ecmin/application.htm or by starting on the NCC's Web site home page -- http://ncccusa.org. Click on Ecumenical Networks and follow the top link to "Application for a Home Page." This is a page you've already visited to apply for your Web site. But this time, click on "Construct a Web Site." You will be asked for your UserID (above) and your Password (above). At that point you need only fill in the form and submit it. A new Web page, personalized for your organization, will be available to you. 3. HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR OWN WEB PAGES (OR MODIFY THE ONES YOU JUST CREATED) You may, of course, develop your own Web pages and modify the ones you create with our form. To update the content of your pages, you may go to "Application for a Home Page" and follow the instructions. For more complex development/changes, you may communicate with the Web server using either FTP or Telnet. The best and easiest way to create your own Web pages is to do so on your own computer, then send those pages to the NCCCUSA server using FTP. To contact the Web server with the simple command line FTP program that comes with Windows, after connecting to the Internet, you simply type: ftp ncccusa.org You will then be asked for for your UserID and Password. When you are logged in, you will be in your own Home Directory. Any changes or additions you make to your Web page(s) will be immediately available to the world. There are many FTP programs available at your local computer store and on the Internet that are very easy to use. If you want something that is a little more "user friendly" than the FTP program described above, you should acquire one of those products. If you acquire such a product you will be asked for several items of information. One primary item asked by all programs is for the FTP server address. The address of the NCCCUSA server is: ncccusa.org You should have nothing else in the address (Do NOT prefix WWW. or FTP. to the address). 4. ANY QUESTIONS????? If you have any questions, please write to ecmin@ncccusa.org or call 1-212-870-2281 and ask for "Ecumenical Ministries". We'll help you find the answers. We hope you will find this service useful! Sincerely, NCC Ecumenical Ministries
